A. Provosts Memo
In regard to a question posed concerning the components of portfolios that information will be provided at the next meeting.
B. Dispositions
Some programs shared when and how they assess dispositions during the academic year.
1) Physical Education Their program assesses dispositions at mid-term and the end of the semester. For mid-term assessments, the faculty meets to discuss students who may be having some difficulties in the program and the type of remediation that might assist them in working for a positive outcome. The faculty meets again at the end of each semester and those who have improved are recognized with a congratulatory letter. This process continues for six semesters and the evaluation includes eight assessment areas. In addition, all course syllabi contain the programs dispositions so that students may become familiar with them.
2) Childhood Education Their program has 27 dispositions listed on their syllabi. In addition, their dispositions are imbedded in their course syllabi. When a disposition issue occurs, those individuals who are involved meet to discuss what type of remediation might be suggested to allow for a positive student outcome.
Both of these programs use the Candidate Consultation Form and the Fair Process Policy as guidelines in evaluating dispositions issues.
The Council agreed that the list of Dispositions for All Candidates needs to be revisited and possibly revised at a future meeting.
C. Teacher Preparation Self-Disclosure Form
This form is used by the Associate Deans to provide the details of judicial incidents that occur between checkpoint 2 (at the time of application) and checkpoint 5 (prior to student teaching). The initial application contains a section that directs students to self-disclose any judicial incidents to their Associate Deans. This form is used to document the students visits. In addition, this information is presented to the TECRC for evaluation.
D. Candidate Consultation Form
A copy of the Candidate Consultation Report was included in the handouts. Programs were reminded that they should be using this form to fully document in writing any student situations that involve dispositions.
D. Professional Development School initiative update
Each school is finding members who will connect with their areas of expertise in the school districts. The purpose of this is to develop curriculum.
